My name is Alex Harbich and photography is my passion. I am 23 years old and I have dedicated my life to photography for six years. In addition to working as a freelance photographer and studying photography at the Berliner Technische Kunsthochschule in Hamburg, I also implement my own serial projects.
My approach to photography is always an artistic one. The most decisive part about my work is a pictorial idea which is both visually creative as well as strong in content. Everyday life inspires me and after months ideas become concepts and concepts become series. These series have not been concluded because every project is long-term and to mature with me. At the same time, it is personal – I process a theme because it has caught my interest and I follow an idea because it is close to my heart. I always aim to create photography that is meaningful, expressive and asking the right questions. I am not about photography as mass consumption or merely as a technical discipline. On the contrary: Technically speaking, photography has become so easily manageable that it must focus more on contents and ideas to be considered high-quality. At the same time, it is a reason why photography has become approachable: photography is not elitist. That is what I like about it.
My life has completely focused on this kind of photography. In my life, I do not feel the need for life-work-balance or leisure time. For time dedicated to photography is the time when I truly feel free. It is my dream, my one-thing-in-life, which I am devoted to. Everyday I rise with a smile and a purpose – to make photography as grand as possible.
